Head Start 101
Looking for a way to provide orientation to your new staff who missed pre-service? Need to provide orientation in small increments throughout the year? Then Head Start 101 is for you! Designed for the new staff person, Policy Council/Governing Body member, or other stakeholders.
Your Role in Protocol
This workshop is designed to help staff at all levels understand their role in a federal monitoring review and the self-assessment process. Participants will gain insights that the federal monitoring review is “not just for management staff.” In this workshop, participants will learn:
- What a federal monitoring review is
- How and when a review is conducted
- What a typical review week looks like
- How and why each staff person’s high level participation is critical

Often, staff who have ‘come through the ranks’ and done well are promoted into leadership. However, less often are they prepared for this new role, which requires very different skills than they may have needed before. In this workshop, we examine some basic skills all new leaders need to develop, including:
- Learn 7 basics of developing and leading an effective team
- Learn to lead meetings that are well run and results-oriented
- Learn how to keep ‘the main thing the main thing,’ or how to stay focused on the things that matter most
Bringing Out the Best in You and Others
Do you sometimes struggle to appreciate people who see the world differently from you? To be an effective employee or manager, the ability to effectively communicate with people who are different from you is critical. Using a resource called “Personality Patch,” you can learn appropriate responses to challenging people and situations, resulting in a more stable work environment, greater staff and patient safety and care, as well as higher staff morale and retention. In this workshop we will:
- Discover your own personality and learn to recognize different personalities of people you interact with
- Learn appropriate responses to challenging people and situations
- Identify how bringing out the best in yourself and others results in a more stable work environment, greater staff and customer or client care, and higher staff morale and retention
